1 Cm3 Firewood Logs Confused about the type of logs you need to burn??? Hardwood logs or softwood logs??? We have been using our logs for many years in our own homes as a great source of heat in both the kitchen, in the aga and open fires. The definition is about the trees that the woods come from, not about the properties of the wood. The really short, simple definition: hardwoods come from broadleaved trees; softwoods from conifers. The slightly more complex explanation: hardwoods come from trees whose seeds have some kind of shell or covering (eg: acorns, nuts, and fruits such as apple, pear, cherry etc.) The scientific term for this kind of seed is angiosperm. Softwoods come from trees whose seeds have no shell casing (in practice, conifers.) The naked seeds can be seen lying between the open scales of a ripe cone. The scientific term for this kind of seed is gymnosperm. A bit of extra detail: Nearly all conifers are evergreen but there are exceptions (such as larch) so defining hard/softwoods as deciduous/evergreen doesn’t quite work. And the classic proof for your extra point about soft hardwoods and hard softwoods is that soft, light balsa is a hardwood while iron-hard yew is softwood. We are often asked if our logs are all hardwood as people assume that they will be much better for burning. This is not always the case. Our logs are approximately 80 percent hardwood and 20...
In 2009 we created firewood logs Manchester. We originally set up as we ourselves were finding it increasingly difficult and costly to find a good source of firewood logs for our stove and our fire. Understanding the benefits of using logs as a greener, renewable, low carbon alternative to fossil fuels such as coal and gas gave us more of an incentive .Our thinking was to also do our bit in tackling climate change and providing local homes and businesses with a secure renewable low carbon heating supply.
This led us to looking deeper into the subject for using firewood logs as a greener heating source for our homes. With the ever increasing fuel prices we were also hoping hoping to save some money.
The firewood market is growing rapidly due to strong demand for modern more efficient log stoves. According to the Stove Industry Alliance 160,000 homes installed wood burning stoves between July 2008 and June 2009.This shows people like us were looking for a good supplier of firewood logs.
This trend is only going to get stronger with the government’s obligation under the 2009 renewable energy directive the UK is committed to sourcing at least 15 % of its energy from renewable technologies by 2020.
All our wood is comes as a bi product of the local tree surgery industry. We ensure each of these companies act in compliance with local councils and we have seen them in action ourselves. If you wish to use any of these companies please get in touch
We will not deliver firewood logs further than 15 miles from our storage point keeping carbon emissions to as little as possible.
All our firewood logs are seasoned outdoors naturally. We do not use a kiln or wood drying oven to season the wood.

As a rather warm Autumn comes to an end and Winter is on its way the temperatures begin to drop and the leaves have fallen. We all need to think about the upcoming Winter and how we heat our homes. With the ever-increasing costs of gas and electricity more and more people are looking for a cheaper alternatives. Last year more than 180,000 UK homes had a stove installed, and sellers say this week’s domestic gas and electricity price increases will only add more interest to the sector.
Since we started in 2009 gas and electricity prices have been constantly rising whilst our price has remained at a constant at £75.00 1 cm3 .Unfortunately we have also become a victim of the ever-increasing price of fuel and may be forced to increase our prices on 21/9/2013 to £82.50 as the price of diesel in particular has increased our costs. Keep you posted if any change does happen. We have researched our choice on prices and are still very competitive with the average cost across the country being £100 per 1cm3. Often with a delivery charge added to that.
We would also like to remind our customers that we now provide Kiln Dried Logs . Although I understand people needing logs to be below 25% moisture content it’s almost a waste to burn fuel to create fuel. But we have succumb to market pressures and are able to get them transported to us.
If like me you have fallen victim to the “Wood Bug” and need to know the ins and outs of each variety of tree with their BTU value and moisture contents . Then the following link is well worth a read.Firewood Ratings . I am also hoping to get a table together of fuel efficiencies and BTU for all types of fuel so keep posted.
